Misdemeanor Homicide

I heard that phrase around, and I made the scene of a "misdemeanor homicide" today. In the ghetto it is just another shooting, another killing, life moves on. Well all except the victims........

Yes, this may be a "misdemeanor homicide", but the police will still vigorously investigate it and work on the case. It is not a "misdemeanor homicide" to the cops, but I believe it is to the neighborhood. If you asked my nephews how many people they know who have died a violent death, they would say zero. Ask a kid from the ghetto, from 3rd Ward, 5th Ward, Greenspoint, I bet their number will be much higher then zero.

That is why it is "misdemeanor homicide", crooks killing crooks, gangs killing gangs, drug dealers killing drug dealers. Most of them won't even make the news, let alone, all the newscasts of that day. It maybe a "misdemeanor homicide" to the neighborhood, but as a police officer, there is no misdemeanor about it. Even the scum crooks have a grandmother or auntie or sister that deserves closure. They all say the same thing, "He was such a good boy". Well not to the neighborhood, he was just another "misdemeanor homicide".

A tragic reality for some I guess. It appears to be an unending cycle.

When I first read this, it seemed like an oxymoron.. misdemeanor homicide.. but then reading, it caught. I watched a program on Compton on National Geographic.. about life there..and its just normal everyday for there. The gang they were documenting had a bbq grill out on the sidewalk cooking hot dogs, while they were talking about going over to the next few blocks and shooting some guys like they were talking about walking to the grocery and buying milk. Plus the guns they had, said the cops were afraid of them - the pistols had larger clips than police have so they get out-shot. Had a big bag of dope too they were proudly showing off. Later a cop drove by, talked to one guy, he said nothing was happening, they were being filmed by a National Geographic film crew, and the cop drove off.. all I could think of is "and they (the film crew) did nothing.. ever after.. just let these hoodlums be with their dope and their guns.. The only bright spot that was one kid managed to get out and get to a college, Arizona State. Made me think of the kids that even in our small town are growing up without daddies, just mom and lots of relatives living in the same house, or lots of different boyfriends, what is in store for them. We dont have many killings, but we do have gangs.

...Sadly, until and unless THEIR OWN community jumps in and decides to ANTE UP (with BOTH FEET for a change), not muchis going to come about to bring an end to homicides there...period.

Then again..everything in life is a CHOICE.
(some just make a crapload of BAD ones, that's all)

Stay safe.

I know what you mean. I remember an officer telling me of a murder scene he made. Some drug dealer got shot and was alive when they made the scene. The drug dealer knew he was dying and told the officer just before he expired that he realized he f*** up!
